| Hideki Tojo (1884-1948): |
| Hideki Tojo was a Japanese military leader during World War II. He was made army chief of staff for Japan in 1937 and became the minister of war in 1940. When he became prime minister in 1941, the government had become entirely run by the military. He was both the leader of the government and commander in chief of the armed forces in 1944 when he resigned, ashamed of Japanese losses in the Pacific. He was arrested in 1945 as a war criminal, sentenced to death, and executed in 1948. |
