Netherlands:

At the beginning of World War II, the Netherlands declared neutrality. Due to their strategic location, Germany soon invaded in 1940. The country was severely damaged during the invasion, by both German forces and by Dutch defense forces. Allies also destroyed parts of the country when they attempted to liberate it in 1944. The country remained under German control until it was liberated in 1945.
