Bulge, Battle of the:

The Battle of the Bulge was the last German offensive in World War II. As Allied forces advanced on Germany, on December 16, 1944 Hitler launched a counterattack to repel Allied forces and to retake Antwerp in Belgium. They advanced about 30 miles into Belgium but were stopped later that month. They were forced to withdraw and as the casualties suffered in this battle were vital to German defense, this victory for the Allies probably helped the overall defeat of Germany in World War II.
