Axis: |
| The Axis powers consisted of Germany, Italy, and Japan as well as other nations strong-armed by Germany into the alliance. The three nations were not so much an alliance of ideology as they were an alliance of convenience. The reason that they were able to ally with each other was simply because their individual goals did not seriously conflict with each other. On the Axis powers, General Lord Ismay wrote, "As we look back on that period we can never be sufficiently thankful that the three Axis powers had from the start pursued their own narrow selfish ends, and that they had no integrated plan." |
