Foil
Since the mask is not target area in foil, it must not overlap the collar by more than two centimeters or come below the collar bones when the fencer is on guard. No part of the jacket may have any material that may catch the point of the opponent's blade

Sabre
The masks in sabre must be sufficiently padded, with a bib that is large enough and strong enough to protect the neck and head. No part of the glove may be made of hardened leather or any material that may allow the blade to glance off. Since the arms are target area to cuts, there must be a lining inside the sleeve of the weapon arm covering the underarm and the arm down to the elbow.
