Altocumulus Clouds
Puffy and often have dark, shadowed undersides. They sometimes create what is known as a mackerel sky because their ripples look like fish scales.
Stratocumulus Clouds
Gray clouds with dark shading that spread out in a puffy layer. They do not produce rain, but sometimes turn into rain-producing nimbostratus clouds.
Cumulus Clouds
Known as fair weather clouds, because they form in warm air on sunny days. They disappear at night. Sometimes they pile up and form cumulonimbus clouds.
