| Wispy, ice crystal clouds, that form as high as 35,000 feet. They look like horse tails blowing in the wind, so they are known as mare's tails. |

| Made up of ice crystals and form about 25,000 to 30,000 feet above the earth. |
| Cirrostratus Clouds |
| Thin gauze-like sheets that from at the same high altitudes as cirrocumulus clouds. They often create halos around the sun and moon. |
| Altostratus Clouds |
| Thick sheets of pale gray. If the sun or the moon appears behind the moon, it looks like it's covered by a thick veil. |
