Publication sent out on behalf of "Technical Services" department of Alyeska Pipeline Company to all of it's employees. This publication is yet another example of how the Sun effects Earth.
LAN Communications NoticeThis is to advise you that commencing February 22, 1998 and extending to March 6, 1998 AT&T Alascom Satellite Facilities will be experiencing service degradation and outages as a result of interference from the Sun. Alascom anticipates Sun outages to occur between 12:15 AST and 12:38 AST in varying lengths of time from 5 to 10 minutes each day. Different areas are effected on different dates and times during this period. Sun outages occur for a few days twice a year as our geosyncronous satellite passes directly between the antenna on Earth and the Sun causing the radio frequency noise from the Sun to become stronger than the desired signal from the satellite.
