A Personal account of Sunburn

By: Holly Bernitt

I'm sure many, if not all, of you have experienced the red, burning, stinging, and peeling of a sunburn. So this personal account will probably be similar to what you have experienced. I would like to tell you of my experience with sunburn.

It was a sunny day shortly after school let out for the summer and I was on a field trip to "Great Adventure" with the teen choir from my church. Well I remembered to put on sunblock on the usual places like my arms and face but I didn't even think to put sunblock on the backs of my knees. Can you guess what got fried? Yup! The back of my knees got so burned it hurt every time I bent them. I didn't even realize that they were burning since I didn't feel a thing until my friend pointed out that they were bright red!

Well over the course of the next few days I became close friends with the Aloe plant and eventually the sunburn disappeared. Couldn't happen fast enough in my opinion. I learned a lesson from this experience to always put sunblock on the backs of your knees if you are wearing shorts!!! Since no exposed skin is safe from the Sun's UV rays.
