Even if proper care is taken many people
still run the risk of suffering from heat stroke. In case someone
near you suffers from a heat stroke then the following are some
first aid steps that can be implemented until medical help
arrives.
- Aggressive measures should be taken to lower
body temperature. Clothes should be removed and cool water applied
to the skin followed by fanning to simulate sweating.
- Ice packs should be applied to the groin and
armpits.
- Patients should be removed to a cooler area
and made to lie down with their feet slightly raised.
- Professional medical assistance
must be sought immediately as any delay could result
in death.
- Intravenous fluid administration is often
necessary to compensate for any associated fluid or electrolyte
loss and may be done by the medical personnel.
