Why are the pictures of the Sun green on the start page?

The pictures of the Sun on the start page were taken in ultraviolet light. Ultraviolet light pictures reveal gas from the Sun. If you used a different wavelength of ultraviolet light the picture would be a different color, say red for instance, like the picture at the right.

What is The Sun: Man's Friend & Foe?

The Sun: Man's Friend & Foe is an interactive web site written to educate the reader about the Sun and how it affects our lives. It covers more than just the scientific facts about the Sun but also branches out into medicine, culture, history, and music to name a few of the areas it covers.

The Sun: Man's Friend & Foe is an entry in the 1998 ThinkQuest Competition.

Three high school students from around the world collaborated to create this page. Elizabeth Beckett, who is our team leader, is from Chugiak, Alaska, Holly Bernitt is from New York, and Vishwa Chandra is from New Delhi, India. Our site provides a Real Audio version of our pages for the visually impared as well as scalable fonts and contrasting color schemes for ease of use.

The Real Audio version of our site is also aimed at enabling the blind to be better able to use our site.
