Sun Gods

[Picture of a temple devoted to Surya, the Hindu Sun god] From the beginning of human existence many of the emerging cultures established religious beliefs that involved the Sun or were centered around it. As new civilizations replaced old ones they based and built their spiritual beliefs upon those that had been established before them so their beliefs also included the Sun. In the 1600's people developed tarot cards, these cards are used in fortune telling and include a card that represents the Sun's influence on the life of man.

The very first civilization, the Sumerians religious belief wasn't fully centered on Sun worship but they did believe in a Sun god. Even though the Sumerians Sun god wasn't the most powerful deity in their culture it did promote the development of future Sun worship cults. Over the centuries the other Sumerian gods influence in the culture grew weaker and weaker while the Sun god grew more influential. By the time the Egyptian civilization reached its cultural height, the Sun god and gods had reached supreme positions.

Sun worship had reached its pinnacle and most involved form in South America with the Aztec, Maya, and Inca civilizations. Inca culture was totally based on worship of the Sun.

We do have a list of all the Sun gods we know of for you to look at, maybe you'll discover that your culture at one point in time had a sun god. If you know of other Sun gods please let us know so we can update our list.
