Pianists: Paul Lewis

A British pianist, Paul Lewis won second place in the National Power World Piano Competition in London. He gave his first performance in 1989 at the London Purcell Room. In July 1994, Lewis graduated with distinction from the Guildhall School of Music and Drama. Successes in international competitions have been numerous. Prior to his success in the 1994 National Power World Piano Competition, he gained First Prize in the piano section of the 1992 Royal Overseas League Competition, First Prize in the 1993 Dudley International Piano Competition, and, in 1994, Paul was the overall winner in the Tunbridge Wells International Young Concert Artists Competition.
Paul Lewis has broadcast for BBC Television and
Radio, and was chosen to take part in Radio 3's "Young Artists Forum" series in 1993. He was invited back by the BBC to give a live broadcast from the Wigmore Hall and has been featured on Radio 4's "Kaleidoscope". He made his debut studio recording in January for Radio 3.
He has performed as recitalist and concerto soloist at the Barbican Hall, Royal Festival Hall, Queen Elizabeth Hall, Purcell Room, Wigmore Hall, St. John's Smith Square, and Birmingham's Symphony Hall. Future engagements include numerous recitals in the UK, including the Lichfield, Thaxted and Harrogate Festivals, performances of chamber music and concertos in Austria, and a tour to the Czech Republic as guest soloist with the Moravian Philharmonic Orchestra.
