1940-Present - Born in Illinois, Herbie Hancock is a pianist and composer whose unique keyboard style mixes bebop and blues.
Joining the Miles Davis Quintet in 1963, Hancock expanded the concept of rhythm as it related to soloists in jazz. His composition of “Maiden Voyage” in 1965 earned him recognition in the 1960s and 1970s.
