A post-classicist, Franz Schubert was also a great romantic composer. In a sense, he was the bridge that crossed between the two periods of music history. Perhaps only Mozart rivaled Schubert in the
ability to compose music with ease. Without effort, Schubert would create and finish a piece of music daily.

In one day, he wrote eight pieces! In his lifetime, Schubert composed over six hundred pieces of music. Born on January 31st, 1797, Schubert learned to play the piano, violin and viola. In addition, Schubert was able to sing. He was able to study with Antonio Salieri and soon, he became the concertmaster in his school.
At age thirteen, Schubert starting composing music. Poor, he wrote opera music for a living when he grew older.
He gave up work for his father to write music. Schubert died on November 19th, 1828 at a mere age of thirty-one. He had caught the deadly typhus.
Among his works are: 'The Erl King', 'The Wanderer', 'The Double', 'Gretchen at the Spinning Wheel', 'Sylvia', and the song cycles 'The Miller's Beautiful Daughter' and 'The Winter Journey'. Many of his works, unlike other composers who finished most of their music, Schubert left many pieces fragmented and incomplete.
