Local Life

Here is the Waikiki Shell, a popular concert venue for many local and national musicians.

Hawaii has a lifestyle unique to that of any other.   The South might be known for its hospitality, but Hawaii takes hospitality to a new level.  Visitors are often treated with the same regard as any other resident, which is in no way a negative.  Hawaii residents do not look at each other as neighbors or strangers, but rather an extention of their local family.  Hawaii is very much so one big ohana.  But the way guests are looked at and treated is the not the only thing different about Hawaii.  As it was once its own nation, Hawaii very much carries itself like one.  It has its own music with such artists as Bruddah Iz, Kapena, Kealli Reichel, among many talented others and is looked upon with the same fervor as country is in Tennessee.

As small as Hawaii is, it contains a flavor of many nations.  There are people from China, the Philipines, Korea, Samoa, Japan, and just about any other Asian country.  With this diverse ethnicity also comes a plethora of different religions.  Among the more predominant religions are Christians, Protestants, and Mormons.  This contributes to the unique cultural blend that is unheard of in any of the 48 continental United States.  As a result of this melting pot of cultural diversity, there are many influences in local lifestyle.  Only in Hawaii can you see a restaurant selling sushi, fried noodles, manapua, pork adobo, kalbi, pizza, two scoops of rice, and yes, even mash potatoes on the same block.  But food cannot express, nor can words, the diversity and unique culture that is the local life of Hawaii.
