Each target is four feet in diameter for the ninety- and seventy-meter distances, and two feet seven and a half inches in diameter for the fifty- and thirty-meter distances. At ninety meters, this is the equivalent to hitting a bulls-eye the size of grapefruit across a football field.
Badminton is played on a court 44 feet long ,17 feet wide for singles and 20 feet for doubles. The net is 5 feet 1 inch at the post and the net sags at the center 1 inch. Men's games and women's doubles are played to a score of 15 and women's games are played to a game of 11. Men and women must win by a score of 2 (men's score is 13 to win and women's score is 9 to win). Mixed Doubles will be held for the first time in Atlanta.
Baseball is played on a diamond shape field which is composed of an infield and an outfield with home plate at the bottom tip. The bases are ninety feet apart. Between home plate and second base is the pitchers mound which is sixty feet and six inches away from home plate, and is elevated also. The object of the game is to hit the ball from home plate into the field and run around the bases back to home plate. The team with the most runs at the end of nine innings wins. An inning consists of six outs, three for each team. An out is created by 1) The fielding team catching the ball before it touches the ground. 2) The ball is hit into the field and is thrown to the first baseman who touches the first base before the batter gets there. 3) The batter hits the ball and it is pick up by a fielder and the fielder touches the batter 4) a force out 5) The batter swings the bat and misses the ball three times. Olympic baseball differs from major league baseball in the way that: 1)If one team is ahead by more than 10 runs, in seven or eight innings, the game is stopped without further play. 2)A designated hitter is used in all games. 3) Non-wooden bats are allowed. 4) Only one infielder may visit the pitcher at one time, only one visit for each team is allowed each inning.
Olympic basketball matches are played on a court ninety-one feet ten inches long and fourty-nine and two and one half feet wide. 12 teams in the Olympic tournament compete in two round-robin pools. The top 4 teams in each pool advance to direct-elimination quarterfinals, semifinals,and finals. The differences between a Olympic game and a NBA game is in the Olympics you are only allowed two time-outs per half, a ball bouncing on the rim my be touched , and only a teams coach may call for a time-out. The way you score points is by shooting any where in side the arc of 20 feet 6 inches, if you score from outside the arc she shot in worth 3 points. A free-throw is awarded for a foul, the shot is taken behind a line 19 feet 1/4 inch from the end line, a shot made from their is worth 1 point.

Amateur boxing consists of three three-minute rounds with one minute breaks between rounds. Fighters have to wear protective head gear , in addition a boxer who has been knocked down or stunned may not resume fighting until the count of eight. A single ten count in counted as a knockout ending a fight. The referee can stop the fight if a he thinks that one boxer has taken excessive punishment or otherwise in danger, Their have also been five ring side judges since 1960, in 1992 the International Amateur Boxing Association (AIAB) made it mandatory to have all referees and judges have a daily alcohol test and referees and judges may not attend cocktail parties without permission from the (AIAB) executive committee. In the recent Olympics the scoring is keep by computers in said of judges deciding on a winner.

In the canoe and kayak competitions, the boats are seventeen feet long and canoes are paddled with an ore consisting of one blade. The kayak boats are paddled with an ore that consists of two blades one at each end of the ore. The two-person boats are twentey-one feet long and the four-person boats are thirty-six feet long. The kayak must stay in the middle of the twenty-nine foot six inch wide lane.Canoeing consists of qualifying heats, the top two or three finishers in each heat move to the next heat,the others go to the losers bracket.In the next round, in the losers bracket, the top three of four speeds join the semi-finals.

There are two types of diving contested in the Olympics, which are springboard and platform diving. In springboard diving, it is preformed nine feet ten inches above the water. The platform diving is preformed thirty-two feet nine and three fourths inches from the water.

There are many events in equestrian such as Individual Three-Day Event, Team Three-Day Event, Individual Jumping, Team Jumping (Prix des Nations), Individual Dressage, and Team Dressage. Each are competed by riders no younger than eight-teen years of age in the three-day jumping events and at least six-teen years of age for the dressage events.
Fencing is contested on a piste which is five feet ten inches wide and over 45 feet long.It is made of wood and covered in plastic or a rubber synthetic.The three fencing weapons used in this contested event are called the foil,epee and sabre which each have a metal guard to protect the hand. At foil and epee hits on the opponent are recorded only when the point of the weapon hits the torso of the opponent.Where in sabre events the cutting edge also counts. Each bout is controlled by a referee and a timekeeper as well as a scorer. If a contestant is forced over the edge of the piste, a penalty is recorded but if a contestant steps over the side of the piste, no penalty is given.
The field hockey sticks used in the game are two inches in diameter with a rounded head of wood.There is a flat and rounded end on each stick. The stick is use to hit the ball (three inches in diameter) into a goal which is seven feet high and twelve feet wide. The playing field is 300 feet long and 180 feet wide. The object of the game is to use the sticks to hit the ball into the goal and the team with the most goals wins.A game has two halves of 35 minutes and there is always eleven players for each team on the playing field.
The whole of the ball must pass over the goal-line between the posts to be counted as a goal. A player may use his feet or and body part used to propel the ball except the hands and arms. There are two teams of eleven players, each has a goal tender which can pick up the ball with his or her hands in the penalty area. There are three substitutes on each side, each are allowed to replace an on-feild player once. A substituted player may not return to the field in that game. The game is contested with having two halves of forty-five min. each. The ball must be round, made of leather, with a circumference no more than 28 in. and no less than 27 in. It must weigh no more than 16 oz. The goal posts are eight yards apart and the crossbar eight feet high.The international size of the playing field is 115x73 yards.
There are six apparatus in men's artistic gymnastics which are vault, pommel horse, high bars, rings, parallel bars, and floor.The women compete in four apparatus which are the uneven bars, vault, beam, and floor. The mat on which the floor exercise is preformed, is made up of four smaller squares put together to make one surface area that is thirteen yards square. The men's vault is set at four feet five inches high and the women's vault horse is set at three feet six inches. The men's pommel horse is three feet seven inches high and the handles or pommels are in the centre one foot six inches apart. On the men's rings, there are series of static and swinging moves preformed at eight feet 2 inches above the floor. The parallel bars are five feet nine inches high made of two flexible bars of wood with an oval cross-section set at one foot seven inches apart. The women's uneven bars have one higher bar and one lower bar. The higher bar is set at seven feet ten inches and the lower bar is five feet three inches above the floor. The men's high bar is eight feet two inches high which many swinging and static moves. A bar that is 4 inches wide and sixteen feet five inches long which composes the women's beam event. In this event, the contesters preform a routine of flips, cartwheels, and anything of that sort. Olympic gymnastics is split into two categories which are rhythmic and artistic. In the artistic type, there are seven gymnasts on each team event. Six of the seven compete on the apparatus with one compulsory and one optional exercise. Four judges mark each exercise out of ten. The highest and lowest score are thrown out and the middle two are averaged to get the score. The top five gymnast's scores are counted towards a teams overall event score. The team who scores the most point wins. For the Rhythmic events, forty gymnasts take part in the individual all-around events. These events consist of the ball, club, rope, and ribbon which are all preformed to music of the performers choice. Each exercise is out of a total of ten points. The top twenty competitors go on to the semi-final round and from there competitors with the top ten scores go to the final round. The gymnast with the most points wins. Eight teams of six gymnasts begin the group exorcises which consists of two exorcises. The six gymnasts with the highest scores advance to the final. There, two exorcises are contested and the team with the highest score wins. If there is a tie it is broken by the best of the all-around scores. To compete in the artistic gymnastics events as a male you must be sixteen or older, the women competing in both artistic and rhythmic must be fifteen or older and the rhythmic gymnasts must be fourteen and over in the year of the Olympic Games.
A handball court is 131 feet 3 inches long and 65 feet 7 inches wide. The goals at either end are nine feet nine inches wide. Handball made it's debut for men in 1936.This game is played in side with seven on a team. The game consist of two 30 minute halves with a 10 minute half time. A player can throw, catch, stop, push, or hit the ball using his or her arms, torso, hands, head, knees, and thigh. A player can hold the ball or roll or bounce the ball for only three seconds while attempting to get the ball into the goal.
Judo is competed on a green mat so the throws and slams will not permanently injure a competitor. The competition area is 32.8 x 32.8 feet. Competitors wear "judogis" the white judo uniforms which have to be a certain length and have to be tied with a red or white sash. One competitor wears red the other wear white. A series of throws or holds to the mat score points for the offensive opponent. The competitors win by getting an ultimate throw or back exposure.
This Olympic event has five contests in it. This Event consists of shooting, fencing, swimming, riding and running. In the shooting each competitor is given forty seconds to shoot at a target which a bulls-eye is ten points. A score of 172 out of a possible 200 would be worth 1,000 points any amount higher or lower than 172 is plus or minus 12 points. In fencing, the first to get a hit on the other is the winner. Every competitor must fence every other competitor.A total of winning 70% of your matches would give you 1,000 points. In swimming, a time of 3:54.00 for the 30m freestyle event would be given 1,000 points and for every half a second plus or minus four points. IN the riding event, each competitor draws a horse and is given twenty minutes to get to know the horse by doing five practice jumps. Each competitor starts with 1,100 points and for every knockdown they lose 30 points, for a refusal 40 points lost, 60 points lost for falling off the horse. For every second faster than the set time limit, three points are given, for a slower time it is minus three points. If the tome is twice the time limit or more the competitor is eliminated from the sport. The last of the pentathlon competitions is the running event which by most people is chosen to be the most exciting because of its nickname "chase" because each runner sets out running according to how many points that they compiled in the other events. The first athlete across the finish line wins the gold medal for the pentathlon.
This year the rowing event was held at Lake Lanier. The shell for a single sculls is 8.2m (27ft) long and the shell for coxed eight race is 18.9m (62ft) long. The oars are 3.82 (12.6ft) and sculls are 2.98m (9.9ft)and the blades must be pointed in the teams national colors. In rowing each person in the boat uses on oar unlike in sculling each person uses two oars.The coxswain or "cox" steers the boat. Boats race in 6 lines over 2,000m and the recommended width is 13.5 metes or 44 feet 2 inches.
Safety is a very important part of this event. There is 15 event in the shooting category for both men and women.The target are set at different heights and lengths way.Their will be a total of 300 men and 150 women competing. The venue that will host the shooting event is the Wolf Creek Shooting Complex. Their can be up to 125 people shooting at once.Men have ten events and women have 6 events that you can win medals in .
Softball is a sport that is only held for women in the Olympics. Fast pitch softball, contested in the Olympic games,the bases are 10th apart. It is played with two teams of nine players. The main objective is too score more runs or points by hitting the ball pithed to you by hitting the ball out in the field then run around the bases and touch home plate before your opponent tags you with the ball or touches the base you are coming to before you get there. Their was 8 teams that competed this year in the Atlanta Olympics.
Diving:
In the swimming category which consists of diving, swimming, water polo and synchronized swimming. In the event of diving series of dives are preformed which are done from either the springboard or platform. The springboard is three meters from the water and the platform is ten meters from the water. A competitor may choose what difficulty of dive he or she preform.
Men's and Women's Swimming:
In men's swimming, the events consist of 50m freestyle,100m freestyle, 200m freestyle, 400m freestyle, 1,500m freestyle, 4x100m freestyle relay, 100m backstroke, 200m backstroke, 100m breathstroke, 200m breathstroke, 100m butterfly, 200m butterfly, 200m individual medley, 400 individual medley,4x100m medley relay. The women's swimming events consist of the 50m freestyle, 100m freestyle, 200m freestyle, 400m freestyle, 800m freestyle, and 4x100 Medley. The Olympic size pool is 164 feet long and 82 feet wide.
Synchronized Swimming:
Synchronized swimming is a sport where the swimmers are judged on how well the program the contestants preform is done in synchronized order. The sport requires you have overall body strength, gracefulness, agility, split second timing, and flexibility. For the most part, specific shapes are depicted and are judged. The group with the most points wins.
Water Polo:
In the sport of water polo, each team has seven players, on must be a goal-tender, and six reserves to be used. The object is to get the ball into the other teams goal. At any time a competitor may not touch the bottom or side of the pool.
Table tennis requires a 6in x 5ft net across the middle of the 5 foot x 9 foot table. The object of this enjoyable game is to bounce the ball once on your side of the table, over the net and bounce twice on your opponents side or bounce once and go off the back edge of the table. The first person to score 21 points or if it is tied at twenty the opponent must win by two points to win.
Tennis is a very long game to play but it can be fun to play. A court is 78ft by 36ft for doubles and 27ft wide for singles matches.. The net is 3'6" but in the middle the net is only 3 feet high. The goal of this game is to win a set by 2 points and to win a game by wining 3 out of 5 sets.
Track and field sometimes called athletics consists of all running and track events. The races take place in an anti- clockwise direction and each runner up till the 400m race must stay in the lane the is set for them to run in. The field events take place on the in side grass area on the in side of the track.
Volleyball in the in the Olympics is played synthetic surface, it is 59'8" long and 29'9" wide. The game is played with 6 players on a side, you score 15 and win by two point and win 2 out of 3 matches.
Two hours before the competition the athletes are weighed to make sure that that athletes are in the right weight class. The two lifts are the clean and the jerk, each competitor has 90 seconds to lift once called.
Greco-roman:
Greco-roman wrestling is a type of wrestling in which is wrestled with only the upper body. In the competition a competitor may not defend nor attack with their legs. Greco-roman wrestling is scored by throws and tilts and the competitor with the most points after the set time of six minutes.
Freestyle:
In freestyle type wrestling, a competitor may attack with any part of his or her body. a freestyle match lasts six minutes and otherwise is the same as Greco-Roman wrestling.
In yachting their is wind surfing and yachting for both men and women.Their are many different ways and different boats that are competed with. A race corse has two legs that must be completed.
