Thank you for this site. My son, who was talking during quiet time had to write a paper on why Mona Lisa was smiling. We learned through your site on the mystery! Thank you very much!M~ps...I think, at 12, he's learning to still keep his mouth shut sometimes..this will be a great class discussion!

Did Leonardo work on any public memorials? If so, are there any sketches of these or reflections in his writings?

Do you know that Julia Roberts is currently filming a script with the title "Mona Lisa Smile"? It is about an art professor and her influence on her students. Wonder whether the Mona mystery will make it to film?

In reading through the previous guestbook comments, I realized that the guestbook itself and the citations pages would be wonderful starts to enhance student geographic, mapping, foreign language, and cultural learning. Leonardo was obviously an inspirer for many skills and subjects.

I think Mona Lisa is smiling because she know that everyone is wondering why she is smiling. But now that we know she smiles because she thinks we are wondering why she is smiling we must resist the urge to smile because that would lead to questions about why we are smiling. And to explain that would be complex.

As an eighth grade English teacher very much worried about the Reading and Writing State Standards, your site provides multidisciplinary content, language arts activities, primary sources, DBQ documents online and puzzles. It is an authentic training ground for inquiry and intellectual skills.

As I visited a District 3 (Manhattan) junior high student 9/11 art memorial exhibit and then joined with other visitors at the NY Historical Center 9/11 exhibit, I was struck by the fact that Leonardo's drawings of the end of the world sadly and accurately resonated the visual and visceral experience of this 21st century tragedy.

As i take a multicultural perspectives course at Fordham Campus Lincoln Center, I am astonished by how this single resource demonstates Banks' transformation level with its multiple perspectives--including Italian, Latino, Brazilian, Japanese, and African on various historical events, themes, and myths.

On this Jewish New Year day, it is awesome to consider how the master's drawings, sketches and writings complement many of the philosophies and ideas Jewish scholars expressed about nature and man's thinking capacities.

That is extrememly interesting that the Mona Lisa could be a morphed self-portrait of Leonardo da Vinci; however, Dr. Schwartz still did not suggest why she is smiling.

As I was reading the New York Times today, I noted that the King Tut exhibit has now returned to the National Gallery of Art in Washington. It was great reading the Holland Cotter article and visiting the King Tut resources. As always, you are "ahead of the Times".

As we aproach the close of this year your December dedication page with its beautiful student graphic comemmerating the World trade center, fittingly concludes the year on the same note of optimism and has the same faith in the future that resounds in Leonardo's writings
