It is important to look into more than one explanation of the question of "who is mona-lisa" this question as been arguabley answered over time and although your opinion is as valid as any, it is misinforming not to state other opinions or views which also have gained supporting evidence.

From my earliest studies of Leonardo, I was exposed to but a few seminal works by long standing authorities, which dissappointed me for their circular refernces. I rejoice dear sir, that finally, the imprisonment of outstanding primary sources has ceased... NOW, by the good graces of this website's contributors and their affiliates there is fresh and compelling theory, Artfully presented and skillfully proven by the likes of Mr. Feld and his students, as wellas a host of worldwide collaborators.

"Mona Lisa's real name is Madonna Lisa and is a portrait ofthe wife of a rich merchant named Goicondo, though she was not beautifulshe had an expression that facsinated Leonardo. The painting was started when she was twenty-four and was finished when she was thirty" according to a biography by Elizabeth Ripley.

I was just online, researching some stuff for an English paper. It's really interesting. I never would have thought that a master like Da Vinci, would have painted himself in the form of a woman! Leonardo is by far one of my favorite Renessaince artists. I have seen most of his work, for I lived in Italy for three years. I like to recreate his work, and give it to family members for christmas. Thanks for such an interesting website!

I've done quite a few animations on the computer and once made a round, rainbow colored ball turn into a human being. In the movie, MEN IN BLACK, they make marbles hold entire universes. With all this knowledge, why would I ever think that Mona Lisa was actually a self-portrait of Da Vinci? When I first saw it, I thought it was rather strange that a painting of that time would include a woman smiling. Since it took so long to paint, the models usually held straight faces rather than a smiling pose. But why can't it be something as simple as, "There was no model."

As this year comes to a close, I realize that Leonardo has created a blueprint for humanity and science, which typfies the struggles and achievements of mankind and that can be reset in every year and every age to prepare us to face and focus upon the seemingly impossible miracles that punctuate every phase of our progress. Your site map offers a wonderful touchstone to the ways inwhich Leonardo anticipates a glorious future of invention, hope and proactive envisioning...HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!!!!

I didn't know that Leonardo was (besides being a painter and dicoverer of the inner secrets of nature) such a visionary inventor, and as I learned here his models of sculpture and inventions are being realized 500 years later by artists, scientists and dreamers all over the world. If Leonardo were alive today, he might headquarter his global presence and vision on a site such as this one... I certrainly have been introduced to the great conspiracy of vision which ceaselessly continues here!!

Why does something endure? Why over years, centuries, millennia does the tradition, the parable and the unanswered question of our capablity and responsibilty remain alive? Leonardo saw in the unravelling of nature's mysteries, even greater evidence of G-d's compelling inspiration, in the sulblimity of design beyond even his noble search or understanding...This realization did NOT deter him in his drive to understand this universe and in recording that understanding, pave a wise road for science and art......On this Christmas day, we citizens of this world, are also pressed with the need to place a keen eye on the forces of nature as well as mankind's contrivances, and gaze a little cautiously into the vistas of the time ahead, knowing that like Leonardo, we face a world where the workings are not to be taken for granted, and each of us who can enlighten understanding, holds up hope for the world, and yes, carries the fate of the future itself. Thanks to all the contributors on this website who have so faithfully presented the enduring, inspiring works of Leonardo and all those who continue to see the the world's wonders right there in plain sight!Joy to all the World
