This is an excellent website. Da Vinci was quite an artist, quite an inventor, quite a thinker, but most of all....he was the renaissance man. And this site in 2 words is the only Da Vinci site worth visiting...it is the Renaissance Site period....artistic as Da Vinci and as inventive as his greatest moments

I had a good Old -Fashioned educational experience visiting your site. I'm a teacher in the Springfield public school system and I am (hope you don't mind) specifying the use of your site as part of my class' research project on "Milestones in History Treasure Hunt" in which the students discover new information on the Web. The site even had links for teachers like myself with scores of creative ideas.------Kudos!

To the Mona Lisa web site people:You people (WEB makers and John F. Kennedy High school students) have certainly done a job, I mean, what an outrageously rad site! I didn't know that Leonardo wrote music, or that ther were so many different ideas about the mona lisa smiling. That Dr. Schwartz has really studied this one. I know I'll be back to find out more.(I bookmarked you in my favorites!) seeya soon,Jeanette

This site is really awesome. I printed out many pages and hung print outs all over my room. Some of the design looks like Experimental Da Vinci, like a Purple Haze version of the Renaissance. But this site also showed me that art from the past can teach you about art in the future. It's great for children! Keep it up.

To: Webmaster of the Mona Lisa site,I am an Art History researcher for museums organizatons and internet companies. In that role I am constantly asked to come up with new facts and written documents in estabished historical subject areas. Well, it seems that I had exhausted the data (on da Vinci) at the research libraries which I typically use.... Your site however, has provide me with fresh new direction and new approaches in this age old topic! Hats off to the W.M. and staff

I suspect you're going tell us that Leonardo was a cross dresser and was also Gay. Give it a break. Couls it be that this was a family member whose genetic pool was close enough to DaVinci's that suggested the close relation. Also, it has been stated that many painters place a portion of thenselves in the canvas or art work suggesting a subliminal reference to the originator or creator of the piece,(ie) Michael Angelo the work in the Chapel?

Asside from Rembrandt, Leonardo is the greatest draftsman in history, probably an even greater painter. Of course this is my own opinion, but I think my reasons are well thoughtout. For one, Rembrandt's portfolio as a draftsman is far more prolific. Da Vinci's paintings are a century before Rembrandt's and aren't preserve as well. Rembrandts understanding of light and facial composition is remarkable, but what is even more remarkable is influence of lighting inspired by Titian and Da Vinci. The reason I am writing this in the guest book is because after all is said and done, no person in the history of the world had a greater effect on art than the Mona Lisa, and even more importantly Leonardo Da Vinci. Besides being a masterful depiction of a woman, the Mona Lisa is one of the first recognized non Biblical paintings. I think the reason is maybe the risk Leonardo took, when he painted the portrait of the woman smiling. And I think art and the Mona Lisa go hand and hand, in the fact that the Mona Lisa is undoubtably art's centerpiece, art was enhanced tremendously by the invention of the Mona Lisa. Maybe that's why she s smiling. This site really got me into thinking. I love this site, because it questions the visitor and indulges in to an inquisitive authoring of fact and perception

It is possible that it is a self portrait of Da Vinci. I'm not saying I agree. I do not have a "guess" of my own but it is interresting to read all the reason why and what we think of this painting.

DiVinci was very adament about artists NOT putting self portraits into their portraits.....All artists tend to paint a bit of themselves in their subjects. Given how outspoken this artist was on the subject I think it would be the supreme joke for him to make the Mona Lisa, his most famous work also the perfect joke, thus explaining the smile.

I am so sorry, but I do not buy this at all! Any two photos could be "mirrored and morphed" in this way and appear to match each other! Watch the mouth. DaVinci's is large and downturned, while Mona's is, well, Mona's. And if DaVinci did use himself as the model and "edit" his face to look feminine, then it is simply another testament to his artistic gifts and nothing else. Why don't you go try to prove flying saucers or Bigfoot?
