Steve,

Thank you for sharing your website. I can indeed say you must be very
proud of your students. They have certainly shown their expertise in
the use of technology in building your website.

All directions were easy to follow, graphics were excellent and I
enjoyed the interaction of the different types of multi-media that was
used throughout the site.

Best of wishes and keep up the good work.

Dear Steve
Thank you for your interest in our award. I just finished visiting your
web page - very nice job! It is evident you and your students have/do
spend a lot of time on your site. As a former educator myself, I applaud
your students initiative for embarking of such a worthwhile project. I
would be honored if you would accept the citation below. Please note
because of the significance and background of our award, you are only the
73rd recipient, even though we have received over 220 nominations. What
I am trying to say is please don't bury it among the "you can have this
award - just ask" awards. Also, because we are recognizing your efforts
not ours, linking is your option - we do not use our award to generate
traffic, we are very successful without it.

CITATION TO ACCOMPANY AWARD

Congratulations! Your web page has been selected to receive the "FLY WITH
EAGLES" award presented by HART Enterprises (http://www.hart.idsite.com)
This award was implemented because in 1984, as the result of an accident
while
serving as an officer on active duty with the US Army, I became a
quadriplegic,
paralyzed from the chest down. In a veterans hospital for 10 months, I
was
among many young men struggling to put a sense of worth back into their
lives. I
always admired our national symbol, the bald eagle, for its strength,
courage and
beauty, and its ability to soar on the slightest of winds. It was what
those of us in
the hospital were trying to do - muster up the strength and courage to
live our lives
with the least amount of help. Now I am in a position financially,
physically, and
spiritually to recognize others for their efforts. Thus, the "Fly With
Eagles" award
was born. We surf the net looking for worthy web pages. And, in some
cases,
web pages are recommended to us. Your respect for proper NET ETHICS and
your ability to display your web page in a LOGICAL, INFORMATIVE, and
CREATIVE format places you among only a handful of web masters that have
 received this award.
 Sincerely

I saw the discription of your interactive Mona Lisa site on PedagoNet
this evening and am interested in taking my students to the site. My
sixth grade art students study da Vinci and the Mona Lisa as a part of
their art history. I have a collection of take-offs on Mona Lisa that I
have collected over the years that I have taught the unit. If you are

Dear Steve Feld:
I found the web site because I have a project due in one of my education
classes, and I happen to come across it. I have always loved the Mona
Lisa. I have her poster on my wall which has been up for two years. I am a
college student, and I've appreciated art for a long time. Like I stated
on the site, I have visited the Louvre (i hope that's the right spelling)
and took many pictures of Mona Lisa. I fell in love with her since I layed
eyes on her. The trip to Fance was when i was 15 that's almost 5 years
ago, and i've never lost respect for Leonardo Da' Vinci. He's one of my
favorites. I would appreciate being updated about any work done on the
web page, please keep my address in order to let me know of any changes or
modifications done to the page. With sincere thanks

Dear Mr. Feld,

Thanks for the invitation to your Da Vinci site. What a great job your students
did! Definitely professional-quality work. It was laid out well, made great use
of multimedia, had good links to other sites, and was very colorful. Done on
computers that are almost as old as your students? What an impressive job!

At Educast, we're planning a new version sometime in the spring, which may
include a list of hot sites. If your techno-wizards are still publishing then,
please let us know!

Aloha Steve!

Gee, you responded very quickly. Thank you. Well, yes I am in school
--which is how I stumbled across your site. I'm doing a research project
on Leonardo da Vinci. Your site was filled with very interesting facts
and information. I was fascinated by the pictures as well as how much
other links I discovered. I think it's awesome that other students are
interested in the knowledge and life of Leonardo da Vinci. He is such an
overwhelming subject to learn about, --he's astonishing! Your site is
very useful to me, I made a bookmark on it. Thank you for making it
available.

Congratulations! Your Web site has been selected to win an Elite Site
Award. (award as mentioned in the Wall Street Journal 2/19/97 B1) It has
won the prestigious Elite Site Award. It is to signify that your site has
been judged to contain quality content, design and/or HTML expertise.

What is my reason for having an awards site?

To give credit where credit is due. I know and you probably know that it
takes a lot of time and effort to create a quality site. For this reason, I
feel everyone who has achieved their goal of maintaining an overall "elite"
site deserves at the least, a badge of honor. The badge of honor I have to
offer is the Elite Site Award. If you find that it has no meaning, it is
just a graphic that someone created, then by all means, don't put it on
your site. For those who appreciate the award, I am honored to present it
to you.

This award is not given to everyone who nominates their home page or site.
By my discretion, I pick only the sites I find to fit the minimum
requirements and in some way or another soar beyond them.

Why do I have the authority to judge which sites are good and which sites
are bad?!

I don't. I don't judge which sites are good or bad, I give the award to
sites, that in MY opinion are high quality. If you see the award displayed
on a site you feel is way below average, then, you are entitled to your own
opinion and yes, to you, the site is no good. But I judge the sites
according to my own standards. I feel my standards are high, and I feel
that it should be a proud thing to display the Elite Site Award on your site.

The award image choices can be found at:
http://www.netutopia.com/award/
If you wish to link it to the Elite Site Award home page, please link it to:
http://www.netutopia.com/award/

I would like to thank the individuals who took the time and the effort to
nominate anothers site out of the goodness of their hearts. If you have
seen a site that you feel deserves this award, nominate it and maybe, just
maybe, you will see the Elite Site Award displayed on the site you
nominated in little time.

        Again, congrats!

Steve: I've put a link to the Mona Lisa site on my Teaching with Electronic
Technology page:

http://www.wam.umd.edu/~mlhall/teaching.html

It's the one that gets most of the traffic (linked to by hundreds of other
teaching sites). I'd be delighted if you add a link as well. --Michael

Dear Steve!
Thank you for sending to me your WebPage description. It was printed
out, 'cos would like to revert with conclusions on this one again.

I am herewith with the forwarded message for your kind notice. It was
received today in the early morning ( by my traffic/schedule ). Hope
you will find it a quite useful summary.

There are two reasons for delayed correspondence:

# I was visiting my Mum yesterday and we were out for shopping, She
is my best companion and frankly speaking, I haven't seen her for
ages ( we were only on telephone lines).
# Was willing to reply immediately, but figuring out the time limit
in my hands, have sent some e-mails to Netfriends telling them about
your site. It took some time for me.

Unfortunately, for the time being no reply from Mr Tim Parker-Nance.
Actually, he is informed and to my opinion, the status - "being
informed" is a better then being uninformed. Your request for his URL
will be kindly resent to Mr Smits: Andy Smits
He will be pleased to arrange it, 'cos they are in the same mailing
list.

Waiting for your comments ASAP

Have a nice weekend and take a rest :))) (((Monday is coming soon )))

Best regards,

Inga

Down through the last five hundred years, if one had to name the most famous
painting in the world, most people would tend to think of Leonardo DaVinci's
Mona Lisa. Housed today in the Louvre in Paris, the painting has one of the
longest, most illustrious, most well-documented histories imaginable. Stolen,
ransomed, nearly destroyed, the Mona Lisa has very nearly taken on a life of
its own. Commissioned about 1503 and worked upon by the master intermittantly
for nearly two years, the portrait was never delivered to its buyer. Leonardo
is known to have kept it with him for the rest of his life.

Much has been made of the subject's enigmatic smile. Recent computer analysis
has suggested the entire portrait may have been something of a self-portrait
though the evidence to such a theory is rather convoluted at best. A more
likely theory, given the nature of Leonardo's analytical mind, is that he
relied upon elements of geometry perhaps more than physical likeness. If one
were to place a compass point precisely between the subjects eyes then adjust
the pencil point to her lipline, the resulting circle would precisely coincide
with the outer edge of the model's cheek structure and hair on the left, the
edge of her hair net or veil near the top of her forehead and the hairline
itself on the right side of the face. Check it out. You'll never look upon
that famous face again in the same light.

WOW!
I'm in love.
I'll comment in a bit more detail later - but for sheer neatness of
content you should get the Golden Egg. I'll reccommend to the committee
that this one be put up during this month's Ed Update.
Congrats to everyone involved. It just illustrates that talent and
creativity are a lot more important than megabucks and megabytes. (Though
- they don't HURT!)

Thanks for writing. I placed your site in my Honorable Mention on my da Vinci
page.

I wish you continued success. I really enjoyed the animated picture of
da Vinci spliced with Mona Lisa.

The idea of collaboration is exciting and interesting to students. I
especially like the idea that the students did the project with so
few resources.
