| The NetGeneration of Youth, a national youth leadership initiative of the Education Technology Thinktank, is dedicated to providing youth from traditionally underserved communities all over America with opportunities to attend civic acyivities related to education and technology, to engage decision makers in dialogues and to express their perspectives using emerging media | NetGeneraton invites youth to participate as cyberjounalists at national and local community events with America's emerging Cybercivilization. Working with local youth leaders and organization affiliates, NGY ensures that the youth are sufficiently prepared for the real world assignments by understanding the issues and processes of 21st century journalists. |

Subsequent to the special events, like the Congressional Black Caucus Education Braintrust (1998-99) or Secretary of Commerce Daley's Digital Divide Summits, local leaders help NGY Youth reflect on the enriching community experiences and then encourages them to express their unique perspectives through creating and disseminating photo-essays, videotapes and Web Reports. Some products of NGY cyberjournalists that have captured the excitement of the CBC Education Braintrust and the Digital Divide Summits through photo essays have been archived at two Internet Websites CBC Education Braintrust | Digital Divide Network NGY is administered nationally by the Education Technology Think Tank, a non-profit, that helps independently-run local chapters with guidelines and technical assistance. To date, NetGeneration Cyberjournalists have received financial backing from AOL Foundation, AT&T and support from the Benton Foundation.
Since Fall 1999, NGY programs have been established with the Talent Search Program at the College of Southern Maryland, the Anne Beers Space Science Academy in Washington, D.C.' the Medgar Evers College' Major Owens Aeronautics Education Lab in Brooklyn; and the Women's Supported Housing Empowerment Project in Somerville MA. Feedback from these chapters indicates that the NGY activities play a significant catalytic role ib stimulating the aspirations and achievements of youth in these traditionally underserved area.
ET3 looks forward to expansion of the NetGeneration of Youth chapters to promote youth leadership, inspire indepth exploration of civic issues, on-going development of media skills and interest and pursuit of real world learning. |
