  • L. A. Bernstein - Millennial Renaissance Imagery
    http://www.mri2000.com
Millennial Renaissance Imagery displays images in a variety of media, with aesthetics and beauty as the common thread. In response to overwhelming traffic post 9/11, images of the World Trade Center are still available for sale as well as free downloadable screensaver wallpaper, (images of what was prior to the tragic events). L. A. Bernstein
Hi Steve. Thank you for taking the time and energy to review and award my site with the "Mona Lisa Select Site Award." I am happy you enjoyed your visit. I have already updated the award index to proudly display the award.

Additional Background information:

Although "Millennial Renaissance Imagery" has been on the web for a number of years, it was surreal for me to experience overwhelming traffic after the tragic events of 9/11. I had over 40,000 hits from September 12-30th, 2001, and another 30,000+ hits in October. Considering that I am a small business with little to no advertising budget to speak of, I was confused that a horrific event appeared to bring my site to the forefront. The majority of visitors came to download the free screensaver wallpaper images of the World Trade Center to keep on their desktops. I received numerous e-mails thanking me for my generosity in giving these images away for free.

I watched the disaster unfold from the window of my computer room; I was unable to eat or sleep for weeks and decided to continue to review hundreds of images from the offline database to add more images online. I decided I could channel my insomnia into getting a lot of work done. (I have been photographing the New York City skyline for nearly twenty years, by land, by sea, and air. The images online represent less than 1% of my database.) I escaped from New York ten days after the disaster to visit my parents down in Hilton Head Island. I came back north 5 days later, passing through Washington DC and found the same level of shock and horror there. Just as I began to sleep for more than two hours in NYC, my neighborhood was the epicenter of an earthquake. Everyone was pouring out of their homes and apartments, running into the streets, scanning the skyline for fire. We all assumed we were under attack from the sound of the explosion. Imagine that we were all happy that it was an earthquake!

A few weeks later, my father died of an acute MI, suddenly and rather unexpectedly. When I had to pass by my home to get clothes for the funeral, my surreal world continued because everyone was cheering on the streets for the New York City marathon. Once again, I felt I had to take something bad and make some good from it....I set up a memorial fund with Hospital for Special Surgery, in loving memory of my father.

You might be asking yourself, why is she telling me all this information? Well, it has taken several months for me to be able to focus clearly on my work, and to start to re-evaluate my life, my work, and my website. I have only recently began to apply for website awards again, and it is more important than ever for my efforts to be acknowledged. I thank you and look forward to continued communications.
