Happy Birthday Leonardo! April 15, 1452

===========================================================

ThinkQuest New York
Are you aware that there is a ThinkQuest NYC program now. Your classroom students can work in teams of 3-5 to create an educational resource Web site and submit it.

We launched the program in early Feb. It's a collaboration between TQ and City College. We provided training for 40 teachers in January and will begin another session in May or June. We hope that Bronx High Schools will participate.

You can have your class work in teams of 3-5 and complete a TQNYC education Web site. There is no collaboration with students outside one's school for now, but that might change later. We want schools to institutionalize TQNYC and include it in lots of courses across the curriculum or in an afterschool program.

You can find more information at http://www.thinkquest.org
Sincerely,
Sheila

Mona Lisa Theories

===========================================================

In celebration of Leonardo's Birthday we recount the proliferation of theories that surround the Mona Lisa Painting

Initially our project demonstrated the Self-Portrait theory of Lillian Schwartz, who thinks that Leonardo used himself as the model. /13681/data/lillians.htm

In contrast, Rina de Firenze claims the model was his mom Caterina.

Rina also points out that Vasari made many silly and inaccurate observations in Lives of the Artists.

In particular, his Mona Lisa description is inaccurate and does not describe the painting hanging in the Louvre, but surely another painting done by one of Leonardo's contemporaries. /13681/data/science.htm

Author Micheal Gelb makes some keen observations about Leonardo's Horse yet his Mona Lisa theories reflect Vasari based writings. /13681/data/museum/horse.htm

IN A COMPLEMENTARY THEORY Dentist Dr. Mark Lawrence has discovered a profile of Leonardo shrouded in the veil of the Mona Lisa. This is a second affirmation that Leonardo included himself in the portrait. http://www.monalisaprofile.com

THE MONA LISA SMILE - A NEW VIEW
The New York Times profiled the visual perception Mona Smile Effect Theory advanced by Dr. Margaret Livingstone. Read, react and respond. /13681/data/links/mlsmile.htm

Salute Leonardo by listening to his sole tune he left for us. /13681/data/link3.htm

Leonardo is our hero. /13681/data/links/hero.htm

As we continue to evolve, document and learn new theories, we honor the memory of Leonardo da Vinci, and celebrate the gifts of art, music, mystery and knowledge he has contributed to humanity.
