Learning About Leonardo
(/13681/data/davin2.shtml)What a fascinating and informative site! Anything you want to know about Leonardo da Vinci can be found right here. Did you know that he worked primarily for the military, producing designs of tanks, airplanes, and submarines, hundreds of years before such war machines were created? He's also famous for his sketches of the muscles and bones in the human body. And have you ever wondered about the Mona Lisa and her smile? Well then, you simply must check out this site to discover the latest theory on this famous painting. Also use this site to visit the Louvre to see his art. Don't miss this cultural opportunity.

To: sjfeld@erols.comHi Steve,
Thanks for the recommendation. I'll take a look at it shortly with the hope of linking to the Art Page. By the way, in what issue of the NY Teacher was the site mentioned. City or State edition? I have not seen it myself.
Also, if I were to e-mail you a flyer for the site, would you be able to make copies and place them in the mailboxes of your colleagues? The site is doing incredible well. This is just our 9th month of existence and already in March we had 92,000 hits without any advertising except word of mouth.
Thanks
Levi

From: "Lance Howland"To: sjfeld@erols.com This sounds good. We'll get started on it. We might not get it in the last four issues before our publishing year takes a hiatus from mid-June to early September, but if not we'll get it in in the fall. Thanks.

To: sjfeld@erols.comHi Steve,
Okay, we will go ahead and put this into our online activities later next week. We would need the special point of entry page. We have many homeschooling families using our site, and it has been very surprising to us the numerous complaints on issues that we had never thought would be an issue. As a result we are trying to keep our site so no one complains about anything. Sometimes it can be difficult because there is such a wide variety of opinions. Thanks
Sylvia

To: sjfeld@erols.comI just read the NY Times article on the Miho giving a Chinese statue back to China. Do you know how I could write to their curatorial staff? (great news, I taught at Harvard for many years where there are so many beautiful works from a 6th century cave in China in the Sackler museum.)

To: sjfeld@erols.comHello Steve,
Thank you for your suggestion. I went to the site and found it fabulous. I used your wording directly from your email as the review since you said everything so well. I hope you do not mind. You will find it in the Teacher Sites (Reviewed) section of Teacher Information Network www.teacher.com/ .
I noticed while browsing through the Mona Lisa Smiling site, that you are a part of the team which created this site. So for this site, please accept our Teacher Information Network Gold Award for excellence in utilizing the Internet as an empowering tool for quality education. If you wish to display our award somewhere on your site, you may select one from the several available at www.teacher.com/awards.html .
Let me tell you who we are and why we maintain the Teacher Information Network. First of all, our main business is the distribution of textbooks throughout the southwest, mainly, although we do ship nationally and internationally for some publishing companies via our depositories in Texas (Southwest School Book Depository), Oklahoma (Oklahoma Textbook Depository), and New Mexico (Albuquerque Book Depository). Our business has lead us into close relationships with thousands of teachers, administrators, hundreds of educational publishing companies, and many state departments of education.
Back in 1995 we decided to establish ourselves on the Internet, and we wanted to give something back to all the educators who have been so kind and helpful throughout the years. We established Teacher Information Network as a non-profit helpmeet for teachers everywhere. As a former teacher myself who had moved into the field of textbook publishing, I was selected as the webmaster. I have made some great alliances around the world through this site, and I have been fortunate enough to take part in some soul-inspiring activities.
That said, congratulations and keep up the great work.
Thanks again,
Terry Orr

Steve,
Thanks for the site submission to Internet Web Guide. Look for a pointer review to appear in next month's issue (June) or in the upcoming issue (May) if I can do some juggling.
