This may be elementary for you but could you tell me "how to go about opening the midi channels through the windows setup configuration for the midi channel". Do I need special software other than the package it came with. The computer is Gateway Pentium 166 with Microsoft home office package. Obviously there is a lot I don't know about what it will and won't do but I'm learning and I would appreciate any help you could give me on this. I'll go back to your quiz as suggested for the wav version and see what I can do. By the way, I found your site through Bob Rankin's Tourbus, October 13, l998. Thanks a Million for your help. Judy

In the main directory I find the control panel icon, ( on your computer the control panel can be found by clicking the My Computer icon.
  1. From there you select midi mapper...
  2. Then select SHOW setups
  3. select FM Synth & MIDI
  4. --- then choose edit
  5. There you we see a chart with four columns. The first two columns have 1-16 in them. These are the 16 channels.
  6. In the first row the name of your sound card appears in the third column window. The rest of the rows have nothing in that column.
  7. Go to each row and select your sound card to appear in the window on that row, and that is how you open the channel.
  8. Finally, I then downloaded the free Cresendo which was easy enough to install.

Midi is great-- not only is sound richer, but many sites use this format.

Its an experience the first time you hear it.

Enjoy... I hope this solves your dilemma.

Sincerely,

Steve Feld
