The Cool Site award for August goes to the Web Site Why is the Mona Lisa Smiling?. Follow the students at the John F. Kennedy High School in the Bronx as they partner with their peers in Borlange, Sweden to probe the mystery of the Mona Lisa painting and create the Internet project they would submit to ThinkQuest, an international contest. From Vasari's account of Leonardo Da Vinci to the hypothesis of Rina de Firenze, noted author and the work of Dr. Lillian Schwartz, students examine his life and work. They probe the claims that the Mona Lisa is a portrait of the artist's mother and the theory that the painting is actually of DaVinci himself. Check out their morphing technique and see what you think. We especially enjoyed the places we visited using the Leonardo Learning Links page and the background information found on the tour.
