Boy, was it funny what I saw today. Four soldiers were walking around in wooden barrels. I recognized Billy Collins, who is often caught drinking. I am not familiar with this type of punishment; in my regiment offenders are usually confined to a guarded tent for a few days. This gives soldiers a break from drills, however, and is more of a reward than a punishment. I've heard of other punishments which are far crueller. A common punishment, I've heard, is to be gagged and pinned in an uncomfortable position for a few hours. I've also heard of an unlucky man who came to camp five days late from his leave and he was sentenced to three years of hard labor. I haven't gotten in any trouble yet. |
