A Griffin was a monster in Greek mythology that had a head and wings of and eagle and the body of a lion. The griffin is on many peoples' coat of arms.

Myth

There was much gold between the one-eyed Arimaspians' and the Hyperboreans' land. The griffins guarded the gold from the Arismaspians who often tried to steal it.
