Eros (Cupid) was the god of love. A person shot with one of his arrows fell in love He is shown as a naked infant with wings holding a bow and arrows.

Myth

Aphrodite (Venus) was jealous of the beauty of Psyche, so she sent her son Eros to shoot her with one of his arrows. This, she thought, would makes Psyche fall in love with an ugly man. But Eros accidentally shot himself with an arrow and fell in love with Psyche. He visited her every night in complete darkness, because Psyche was not allowed to see her lovers' face. Finally she was convinced to light a lamp, but some of the oil fell on Eros and he left. Psyche searched the world to find Eros. Aphrodite (Venus) told her she must complete three hard tasks to receive love. Psyche performed the first two tasks, but died completing the third. Aphrodite took pity on her and she was taken to join Eros.
