Aeolus was the Greek
god of the wind. He lived on one of the Aeolian Islands which
were named for him. He kept the wind inside a cave and released
it whenever he pleased.

Aeolus was an important
character in the epic The Odyssey. He gives Odysseus a
leather bag containing wind that would prevent Odysseus from sailing
home. Odysseus' crew opened the bag and the ship was blown off
course.
