Creating Connections
We discovered the ThinkQuest competition at the ThinkQuest Workshop that came to our hometown. We were drawn together by the excitement each of us had for the project. We each wanted to learn about web page design, and wanted to help promote interest, understanding, and expansion of tree museums world wide.
The Riverbend Tree Museum was planted over the winter holiday at the Atchison Middle School by the class of 1965. We spent many classes staring out classroom windows, wondering about the trees on our schoolyard's bank. Our curiousity expanded into genuine interest once we were informed of the trees' importance.
Our first step was to contact members of the local reunion planting committee to obtain Mr. Lemaster's address. Phone calls, email correspondance, packets of information, and the exchange of diskettes began in November of 1996, and continued until June. From Mr. Lemaster, we not only obtained research for our website, but we also arranged to replace trees in our museum that hadn't survived the first winter.
