Though we do not attend the same school (or even the same type of school), or maybe because we don't attend the same institution, this was a novel way to create a project: we communicated via E-mail, WebChat, snail mail, telephone, fax and (at strategic stages) personally meeting- both at special Titanic commemoration events and in workshop sessions at our education board's Educational Technology Centre.

BBC RADIO ULSTER learned of our activities and invited the pair of us on to one of their popular radio shows, at Easter, to discuss the ThinkQuest concept in general and our project in particular. There was an interesting and helpful audience response.

THE CAUSEWAY INSTITUTE is a technical and vocational institution for students aged 16+. ANTRIM GRAMMAR SCHOOL is an academic, secondary level school for pupils aged 11 - 18 years. Our only 'difficulty' in working together must have been that students at the Causeway Institute get to call their tutors using the christian name whereas, at Antrim Grammar, pupils must address teachers very formally.

In practice, this meant that I (Kathryn) - following our Causeway practice - often ended up addressing the Antrim teacher ("Mr. Smyth") by his christian name (which I shouldn't do); while I (Sarah), automatically using the Antrim mode of address, found it strange not to address the Causeway tutor as "MR Brockbank" but as "David"! We felt a bit like Alice, in her curious new world!
