The Pueblo III Time Period

1100 AD - 1300 AD

In this time period, the puebloans began expanding to areas such as Rio Grande Valley. Agriculture was now the full-time occupation. This time period also saw the beginning of irrigation in San Juan Basin (another heavily populated area like Rio Grande). Pottery and jewelry making improved drastically. The people of this time traded turquoise, obsidian, and pottery. In return they received seashells, coral, parrots and copper from the people of Mexico and the Pacific coast. These people also began building massive multi-family complexes sometimes referred to today as plazas. The Plaza consisted of many multi-family units combined together. Most Plazas usually would have at least 100 to 300 rooms in them. Each plaza usually consisted of one large Kiva and two or more smaller Kivas.
