The Pueblo II Time Period

900 AD - 1100 AD

During this time period, the puebloan culture began to evolve into a higher civilization. They lived in larger dwellings that could hold many more people than the original pueblo. Some tribes including the Anasazi, built their large villages in the side of cliffs. This was so they could have easy access to the river below, and the lumber and food above them. It also gave them easy defense from neighboring tribes. Although some have decayed, many puebloan villages and plazas are still standing throughout the Southwest.
