(1500 AD - Present AD)

In AD 500, a group of tribal chiefs immigrated from Canada and alaska to the Southwest. They split up into two groups; the Apache, and the Navajo. The Apache were warlike and did not want to learn the Spaniard's ways. They called themselves Dineh, which means "the people". They called their land Dinateh, which means "The land of the people". The newly born offspring inherited their Mother's name, and not their Fathers. The Navajo are most widely known for their skilled artistry in weaving and many other arts. There is also another tribe of the Southwest. They are called the Hopi. They are known for their pottery and their exotic dances. One such dance is the Snake Dance. This Dance involves live rattle snakes, which are poisonous! Then in the 1500's, the Spaniards began overrunning the Americas. They had two goals: gain land for Spain and convert the natives to Catholicism. They erected missions; fort like structures used to educate the natives, keep unwanteds out, and hold religious services. Some Spaniards taught the Indians new trades while others simply conquered the land. Regardless of who the violence was from, every act instilled hatred against the white man and his ways.
