Help on Playing the Game

A screen Shot
World Screen: This area is where most of the action occurs, and where you will see your city built. There is different types of terrain here, including trees, and water.

Building Toolbar: This is where you can select the different types of buildings to build. The available buildings are: Trading Center, Kiva, Plaza, Main Village, Crops, Storehouses, hunters, and gatherers.

River: The river is a very valuable resource to the citizens of your village. Buildings built near water will do much better, and your citizens will be much happier, and have much more welfare.

Season Box: This tells you what season it is. Crop values are dependant on what season it is. For example, if the season was summer, the crop value would be 4. Also, there is a chance that you the season could be a drought. In the drought season, crop values are 0.

Welfare Box: This tells you the overall health of your village. This value combined with your happiness level determines your population for the season.

Happiness Box: This tells you what your happiness level is.

Destroy Button: This button allows you to destroy any building that you have previously built.

Total Population Box: This box tells you your population. This value is a combination of the welfare and happiness values.

Free Worker Population Box: This tells you how many free workers you have in your village.

Message Box: This box will give you general game related messages when you need them. For example, if you click on "PLAZA", the message box will display "The Plaza is selected".

To play the game, simply select which building you wish to build (this is at the top of the screen) and click on the square you wish to build it on. If you wish to destroy something, click destroy and click the square you wish to destroy. You cannot destroy trees- you can only destroy things that you built. The object of the game is to get as high of a population as possible while still keeping welfare and happiness high. Welfare is the overall health of the people, while the happinesss, is you guessed, how happy your people are. When you build three items, three turns have passed which means that the season has changed. In plentiful seasons, crops will be worth more than when they were built in a less plentiful season, for example, Winter. Disasters can also happen at the end of the season, so be careful! Crops should be built one square in relation to water. If they are not, the crop will wither away and die, thus wasting your free workers. Main villages, or pueblos must be built two squares in relation to water, or else they will crack and be destroyed. There is not that much space on the field, so pick your buildings wisely. Sometimes, you will regret putting a structure where you had. Careful planning is the key to this game. In order to build and maintain a structure, you must have free workers.
