Heffelfinger, Pudge (1867-1954).

Named to the first All-America team in 1889. He was an active player for 50 years, longer than any other player. Born William Walter Heffelfinger in Minneapolis on Dec. 20, 1867. Played at Yale 1888-91 under coach Walter Camp. The first guard to run interference for the ballcarrier. Died in Blessing, Tex., April 3, 1954.
