Ship Enhancements
Once you start the game, you will be brought into engineering mode, where
you will see a listing of all the components of the ship and their
characteristics. But, what do these characteristics mean? A good captain needs
to know how his or her ship works! Below is a listing of componenent types
and what the characteristics of each mean.
- Reaction Core - this component, described earilier,
is where all the ship's energy is produced. This is also where you will
manufacture your element-114, which will be described later. Each type
of reaction core requires a special two elements to be fused together to
release energy. (Nuclear fusion.) The first reaction core that you will have
fuses Hydrogen and Helium nuclei. When the elements are fused, a specific
energy output is given. The higher the energy output, the more effecient
your reactor is, and the less fuel you'll have to buy. As you go through
the game, you will want to find reactor cores with a greater energy output.
|
- Engine - Of course, every ship needs an engine. In WormQuest,
you will be using what is called an 'Ion Engine'. The properties of an Ion
Engine are its Effeciency and speed. Effeciency is how much energy that is
required from the reaction core to move a certain distance, and the speed
describes how fast your engine is. The speed of your engine will be important
in combat, especially if you are trying to escape.
|
- Communication Device - As you advance through the WormQuest
unvierse, you may encounter different alien races. When you encounts these
races, you will need a means of communicating with them. After all, they
don't speak your language. (This isn't Star Trek.) There exist communication
devices that allow you to communicate with these different races, and you're
going to have to find them.
|
- Planetary Lander - One of the most important parts of the
game is going down to planets and retrieving commodities. You'll be using
a Planetary landing device for this. Each planetary landing device can only
hold a certain amount of cargo, and use a certain amount of energy. So, if
you plan on hauling large amounts of cargo back to your ship, you may want
to look into investing in a more advanced planetary lander.
|
- Cargo Bay - You are going to need a place to hold any kind
of commodities that you extract from a planet, and this place is called a
cargo bay. Cargo bays have a certain amount of space reserved for both
minerals and lifeforms. The larger your cargo bay, the more cargo you will
be able to hold in your ship at one time. It is particularily nice to have a
large cargo bay beacuse you can go on long missions to far off sectors of the
galaxy and return to your favorite trading post with loads of goods to sell.
|
- Shields - If you plan on surviving in WormQuest, you're going
to have to buy shields, the best that you can afford. Shields protect your
hull from being breached and your crew from dying off. The higher class your
shields, the better the protection from enemy laser attacks.
|
- Lasers - These are your primary weapon of combat. They only
require a small amount of energy to operate, and will lay on the damage if
used consistently. Lasers are ranked by their class. The higher class laser,
the more damage it will do.
|
- Missles - Missles are weapons like lasers, but unlike
lasers, they required a specific commodity to be used up when fired. Different
missle cannons will require different commodities, and also will do a varying
amount of damage. Missles are a particularily dangerous combat weapon, as they
penetrate the enemy's shields and do damage directly to the hull.
