Getting Started
WormQuest is fairly easy to start. At the end of this documentation, you will come across a new account page which will let you set up your new WormQuest account. You will be able to enter in a user name, password, and name for your ship. Then, you will return to the main WormQuest page. At that point, you can click on "Play" and you WormQuest will begin loading onto your computer. Once it loads, a window will pop up asking you for your login name and password. Enter these, click 'OK' and you should be on your way!
Using the Interface
WormQuest's user interface was designed to give you the idea that you are actually a captain of a starship. The game is divided up into a series of modes, which are explained the first time you enter each once. The documention on the game's interface comes with the game itself, so that you can try out the features as you learn them.
The Object of The Game

After reading the story, you might have already guessed that the object of WormQuest is to take a journey to the center of the galaxy. While the plot is science fiction, the game is actually designed to be a learning experience. So, whether you reach the center of the galaxy or not, you will be able to explore and learn about the various stars and other celestial objects that are neighbors to us in the universe.

Playing the Game

You will be able to travel from star to star, via interstellar gates, called wormholes. The concept and theories behind these wormholes are explained in the Information section of this page. Of course, all of this star travel will require fuel and energy. Your ship will be equipped with a reaction chamber that will produce the ship's energy and allow it to enter wormholes.

As you advance through the game, you will acquire faster and more effiecient reaction chambers and engines. You still will, however have to raise the capital, in the form of "credits" to buy more fuel, and eventually better reaction chambers. You will also be able to buy other upgrades, including better shields, lasers, engines, missles, cargo bays, and other things..

"So, how will I raise these funds?", you ask. The answer is simple. You must go to planets, mine minerals and find lifeforms and sell these to trading posts in exchange for credits, ship enhancements, and fuel. You can also use the credits to buy information and other things from other computer-controlled entities in the galaxy.

Along with trading posts and planets, you will also encounter several computer- controlled beings in the galaxy. These include other humans, and the alphoids and betoids that were described in the plot. (You did read the plot, right? When you encounter these beings, you will be able to converse, and hopefully learn something about either the game or the science. However, not all encounters will be friendly. Often the player will be forced into battle, so be prepared.. Also, keep in mind, that even though sometimes fighting cannot be avoided, you should try to stay away from combat at all costs!

All information that the player aquires throughout the game is stored in your ship's computer. Even after you travel to the location where the information is obtained, you can still access the info. But, you will not be able to access any information that has not already been discovered. For example, if you come across a star that is often visible at night, you may be given some information on the star's history and background. But, you will not be able to access, this information until you arrive at the star for the first time. So, explore; travel the galaxy!
