Glossary
Atom: smallest unit of matter
Atmosphere: measurement of pressure equivalent to 101.325 kilopascals
Compound: matter that has been broken down by chemical means into more than one element
Direct variation: when x increase y increases..thus..an expression of X1/Y1 = X2/Y2 can be set up. A.K.A directly related.
Elastically: without the lost of energy
Gas: substance that takes the shape of and fills its container
Indirect variation: when X increases, Y decreases..thus to solve a problem of indirect variation, an equation of X1Y1 = X2Y2 must be setup. Also know as Indirectly related or Inversely related.
Intermolecular force: force of attraction between two or more molecules
Kelvin scale: temperature scale with zero temperature different from Celsius scale
Kinetic energy: energy of an object because of its motion
Law of partial pressures: principle stating that the total pressure of a mixture of gases in equal to the sum of the partial pressures of the individual gases in the mixture
Molarity: concentration of a solution in moles per liter
Mole: amount of a substance that contains 6.02 * 1023 particles
Molecule: particles made up of more than one atom
Partial pressure: pressure exerted by a gas if it were the only gas in a container
Pascal: SI unit to measure pressure
Reactant: substance that is a starting material before a chemical change
SI base units: system of measurement used in science based on decimal numbers
Standard pressure: average pressure of air at sea level
