Introduction

Zichronam l'Vracha is a transliteration of the Hebrew for "May Their Memories be a Blessing." These words are said when honoring the memories of those who have died.

This site was developed for the purpose of educating the public about the Holocaust. From the greek "Fire which consumes all that lives," the Holocaust was a deliberately orchestrated extermination of the Jewish people, as well as the handicapped, Roma (Gypsies), political prisoners, and Communists. As the last Holocaust survivors disappear from the public eye, it is ever more important never to forget this blemish upon the face of history, lest we be forced to relive it.

In creating this site, we have concentrated on primary sources - pictures, documents, and first-hand accounts - rather than giving a mere overview. To understand the Holocaust, one must understand the history of the Jews. For this reason, this site includes information on Antisemitism before the Holocaust, including a chronology beginning at 1300 B.C.E.

It is recommended that you use the "Next" and "Back" arrows for site navigation, especially the first time you visit. The menubar on the side allows you to quickly jump from section to section. The table of contents button lists each page in the site for easy access. This site can be viewed on any browser, but looks best under Netscape Navigator or Microsoft Internet Explorer with a resolution of 800x600 or higher. Frame support is not required, but is recommended. Most pictures can be clicked for an enlarged version.

We would appreciate any feedback you have about this site.
