Chinese Calligraphy

Chinese calligraphy's roots can be traced back to the beginning of Chinese history. It has become a very important art in China. Even though it is expressed through the use of Chinese words, the art can be appreciated with out the knowledge of the language.

Chinese calligraphy was further developed by Tu Meng of the Tang Dynasty. He developed 120 expressions to interpret the different style of calligraphy and establish criteria for them. The 120 expressions explain the guidelines for the different styles and how calligraphic writing should be written.

Watching someone writting Chinese Chess, it may look very simple, but watching and painting are two different things. The brush must be held correctly as wel as the pressure applied to the brush must be perfect inorder to be successful. Chinese calligraphy can be used to liven up Chinese writting. An example of this would be Chinese Chess. In Chinese Chess, the pieces are represented by circular disks with Chinese Characters written on them. Calligraphy can be used to liven up the pieces' appearance.
