  OTHER AQUARIUM CREATURES

Other things in your aquarium besides fish help maintain a healthy balance. Some of those things are:

  • FROGS- There are three types of common aquatic frogs that we know of: The African Dwarf Frog. They stay very small all their lives they could probably only eat little baby fish. We think they are one of the more interesting things you could have in an aquarium. They eat mostly fallen foods or tubifex worms. The African Clawed Frog on the other hand gets very large and could eat very many fish. The Albino African Clawed Frog is the same just white with red eyes.

  • NEWTS- Newts are not fully aquatic. They need something to climb out onto to. We have two types of newts. One is the Fire Bellied newt. They eat tubifex worms and only get a few inches long. They are black with a bright orange fire like designs on their stomach. Our other type is the Spotted Newt They eat the same thing and are about the same size maybe a little bigger. They have a yellow stomach with black spots all over it. and a greenish brownish body. Oregon Newts get 5 to 6 inches long. They have a brown body with an orange stomach. There are many other kinds of newts as well as those kind.

  • SHRIMP- Shrimp are fun if you don't have anything that will eat them. Ours are ghost shrimp. They are white and you can see their insides. They eat any food that they can get. They only get to be almost an inch long.

  • LOACHES- Loaches are kind of like fish that look like little eels with fins. The eat just about anything from algae to flake food.

  • EELS- We have only had one eel and it didn't last long. It was a foot long golden moray eel. It was about as thick as a toothpick. We think they eat just about anything they can get too. If they get big enough they could eat your fish. If your tank has any holes in the lid the eels could get out and slither around your house until they dry up.

  • LOBSTERS, CRAWFISH, AND CRABS- All these three can get big enough to eat your fish. They pretty much eat food that falls to the bottom of your aquarium. You need a pretty big tank to support these creatures.
