Semi-Aggressive Fish-

This type of fish isn't real mean. However, when annoyed by other fish they chase them away. In this category of fish, from our experience, some community fish are:

  • Gouramis
  • Angelfish
  • Bettas (males will kill each other if two are put into one tank.)
  • Barbs

Aggressive Fish-

This type of fish will chase and kill something if it is smaller than itself, or if it goes into their territory, or maybe for no real reason at all. In this category of fish, from our experience, some community fish are:

  • Some Sharks
  • Kribensis
  • Convicts
  • Puffer Fish
  • Most Cichlids
  • Pikes

We think that it depends on your fish's own personal attitude. Each fish has a different attitude. Some normally aggressive fish may be calmer than all the others and may be fine in a community tank. We have had that happen before. We have mixed fish from all the lists and have been alright. You just have to try it and see. If you are not sure if the fish you want will be suitable for your aquarium then just ask your local pet store. Most the time the will be happy to tell you.
