FISH DISEASE AND CURES
We have been through quite a few diseases
in our tank. Most of which were easy to get
rid of if caught soon enough.
- ICH- We have had this disease in our tank a few
times. For us it has happened with our live bearers and tetras. You can
tell if your fish has ich if it has little white bits on its body that
look like little bits of salt all over. All you have to do is buy some
ich remover which you can find in almost every pet store and follow the
instructions on the label. With any luck it will be gone in a couple of
days. You shouldn't waste time because it can be fatal for your fish.
- OXYGEN SHORTAGE- If your fish are swimming at
the top of your aquarium gasping for air, it means there is a shortage
of oxygen. You should then check your air pump and filters to see if they
are clogged or broken. If they are then they need to be fixed or replaced
immediately.
- FIN ROT- A sign of this is that your fishes fins
get ragged, ripped, and whitish at the tips. You can find antibiotics for
this at most pet stores too.
- POPEYE- You can tell this disease when your fish's
eyes start to bug out. It is caused by fluids that build up behind the
fishes eyes. They may have some antibiotics at some pets stores for this
disease. We have never had a fish survive that disease. We've only had
about two that have had it. It is a rarely curable disease.
- DROPSY- Signs of this disease is when your fish
gets kind of a humped back and a thin stomach. This is an internal disease.
It can be cured if you put the medicine in with the fish's food so that
the fish eats some of the medication. It is not always curable.
