Judaism was one of the first religions to teach the belief in one God. Judaism teaches in its holy book the Torah that God is just and merciful and wants his followers to be just and merciful in their lives. A dutiful follower should study the scriptures of the Torah and practise what they teach. The teachings of the Torah include that all men, since they are created in the image of God, should be treated with respect and dignity. The Jews have a responsibility, according to the Torah, to establish a just society and to serve God.
