hey young guy, this is Tim from tlcfitness. weight training is absolutely OK for a 14 year old. Just do not try to max out yet! The epiphyseal plates in your long bones have not closed yet. (that just means that you have some more growing to do.) these plates will only be bothered by excessive weight. By maxing out, like most of us try to do when we first start out, you will aggravate the growth plate, causing it to close early."stunt your growth"
You should see results in just a few weeks from a proper workout plan. and by the beginning of next school year, you will be asked what happened if you are consistent.
My suggestion to you is find a local personal trainer or strength coach and have him/her take you through a couple workout programs and write them down for you!
