: Any teens out there concerned about the amount of weight carried in their school bag? As a school nurse, I notice some students from the elementary through high school level carrying very heavy bags. I notice it affects their posture, and sometimes, their ability to use a shoulder well. I feel a good recommendation is not to exceed 10 % of their body weight. Please let me know what you think. Thank you.
Hello! I'm so happy someone else out there feels the same way I do about school bags! Many of us teens out there carry way too much weight in our backpacks! It effects everything we do! I'm suffering from an incredible amount of back problems right now, and I blame them on my backpack! I have brought this up to other school officials, however their response always seems to be the same, and say something like " . . .that's what the kids have lockers for! So they don't need to carry it all around". However I'm 14 years old, and in one class I have to carry 14 different text books, plus two binders, plus a backpack with all my supplies I need in it! I have to carry that up three flights of stairs, and doudge over 1000 people! Every day I have to do this twice! For all of my classes I need mulptiple texts, and binders. Where is it going to stop? I'm wondering what it will be like when I'm in grade 12!
I speak for thousands of teens out there in asking you to bring this up to school board/officals, nurses, or even the Students Rights Commision. We are all sufferig because of it! If you would like to contact me please write to the_holly_tree@hotmail.com
