: : Should you do stretching exercises before you work out? How many times a week should you exercise?

: Hi Marie,

: As a runner for over 5 years, my experience is that you should always stretch before doing any exercise. Before I run, I always make sure to stretch for at least 20 minutes - this can include the normal "touch your toes" and such, as well as taking a short walk.

: The answer to your next question can be found at this site, but I will answer it anyway. You should exercise at least 3 times per week to stay in shape. Any less, and you won't be doing yourself any good.

: Good luck!

Marie,
It is also a good idea to stretch after a workout too. I have also been running for most of my life and i can tell you that it is actually more important to the body to stretch after a run than before a run. Stretching before a workout is good, but the first few minutes of your workout will be the warmup. stretching after a workout will prevent stretches that you may encounter in the future.
